Switchable Laminated smart glass is a high-performance construction composite glass product in which two or more interlayers of organic polymer interlayer film, PVB and/or commonly EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) in the centre, and a layer of liquid crystal smart film, commonly known as polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) smart film are all sandwiched and bonded to adhere together between two layers of tempered glass under a heat and pressure process in an autoclave or oven/ furnace.
This PDLC technology allows for the visual appearance of the glass to change from opaque to clear (or to dim settings in between) with the flip of a switch or at a touch of a button.
Once the glass has been laminated, it is sealed as one unit and is not exposed to the external elements such as: moisture, solvent or anything which may cause it to deteriorate over time. Hence the production of smart glass is much more sophisticated than that of Switchable PDLC film.
In addition to the privacy protection function, laminated smart glass also has all the application characteristics of safety glass.

Smart film technology allows switching from clear to opaque. Smart switchable film has two-layer in an electronic switchable film which contains polarizing liquid crystals. In a single click, opaque turns to the transparent. Normally, these crystals are randomly arranged, causing light to scatter when it passes through, creating the white appearance. When voltage is applied to electrodes build inside the film, the crystals line up, allowing light to pass through, which creates a clear window. It gives the ability to provide temporary clear or opaque to the space on demand.
